December 2016 Meeting
Monday 5 December 2016

Our intention could be to take what we generally find inspiring about Christmas and what we donât and examine any new thinking that we hope might work for us individually and for others and maybe even for our respective churches; whether in reflection or anticipation you have changed your thoughts and feelings about it during the past year stemming from your theological ruminations. How come? Tell us!

TWO STORIES—CHRISTMAS and XMAS
Sunday 4 December 2016
TWO STORIES â CHRISTMAS AND XMAS
The various elements of the Birth Narratives in Matthew and Luke are theological constructs intended to convey revealed truths about God; the power of divine vulnerability, bias to the poor, the universality of divine love. We shall look at the elements of âXmasâ , the 25th December as celebrated in 21st C Britain, such as gift giving, conditional hospitality, indulgence in rich foods and drink, and ask âHow far does all this reflect the New Testament Christmas stories? Or is a completely different set of values in operation?â Please contribute any Christmas or Xmas stories (real or fictional) that throw light on these questions!
- Location:
- Friends Meeting House, Newcastle under Lyme
- Speaker:
- We now have a different speaker, David Simcock and please note the start time of 7:30pm.
