Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s life and death

We will watch a 90 minute dramatisation of Bonhoeffer's public life, including his imprisonment and death at the hands of the Nazis. This will be background for some discussions, starting in January, based on his 'Letters and Papers from Prison.' In these letters he wrestles with ideas like 'the world come of age' and 'religionless Christianity.'

Talk about Hell - Is it even biblical?

It is easy to dismiss the medieval idea of Hell because we don't like it, or because of what it says about God. But we hope to address the idea on the basis of exegesis. Our starting point will be a series of posts on Andrew Perriman's blog postost.net. http://www.postost.net/2010/05/narrative-premise-post-christendom-theology http://www.postost.net/2015/06/10-good-reasons-switch-narrative-historical-hermeneutic-it-s-too-late http://www.postost.net/2014/09/narrative-historical-method-outline

The Experiential from different perspectives

Nicola Phelan will facilitate discussion on those experiences that are common to all people whether of faith or no faith. Some may call them 'spiritual' or 'mystical' or a 'peak experience' but they seem to have common elements and often can change ones understanding of our relationships with each other and the world around us. Marcus Borg's own experience will be quoted and other articles circulated prior to the meeting that make reference to the experiential. The format will be as with the last meeting so we can listen attentively to each other and then open to wider discussion.
