Thinking Aloud Allowed - December

The last meeting of the year! Where's that gone? Our monthly Progressive Christian gathering meets at Hove Methodist church on Sunday December 8th, just after 6 pm for teas and coffees, service proper starts at 6.30. PCN Exeter - Advent Gathering

There will be a ā€˜getting to know one another’ session followed by refreshments after which Revd Iain McDonald will lead us in an Advent reflection including poetry and song with an opportunity for everybody to contribute thoughts on the meaning of Advent.

ST GEORGE’S COMMUNITY LECTURE SERIES 2019-2020 -ā€œThank God for Equal Marriageā€

Jeffrey John will address the current struggle to allow same-sex marriage in the Church of England. He has been Dean of St Albans since 2004 . He was previously Vicar of Holy Trinity Eltham, Canon Chancellor and Theologian of Southwark Cathedral, and Director of Training in the Southwark Diocese. He has been partnered to Grant Holmes since 1976. In 2003 he was appointed Bishop of Reading but subsequently forced to withdraw. His books include The Meaning in the Miracles; Permanent Faithful Stable: Christian Same-Sex Marriage,; and Going for Growth. He co-authored This is Our Faith: A Popular Presentation of Anglican Belief..

A New Mythology

John Hampton will revisit the 'old, old story' as expressed in the tradition and explore with us the possibility of a new mythology - a way of communicating the narrative of Jesus which may more easily be 'heard' by our contemporaries in the 21st century. We invite anyone who is open to a fresh approach to join us. All are welcome, whether members of PCN or not. .Coffee/tea and a warm welcome from 7.15!

The Bible can be funny

Trevor Dennis on "The Bible can be funny". This is one of his talks at the 2018 Free to Believe Conference. Having been vice principal at Salisbury and Wells theological college and then cannon chancellor at Chester Cathedral, he is now retired but is well known for many books which make faith very accessible for the person in the street.
