Raising issues that face us with complex decisions as to what is meant by ‘a Christian response’ and how we might go about constructing one.
The session will focus on ‘issues’ that arise directly out of the complexity of our daily lives.
Our workplaces typically are places where we spend a significant proportion of our time. Many of the contexts and situations that we find ourselves faced with and having to respond/deal with are such that we cannot easily find ‘lift and drop’ guidance from the Bible (other than, perhaps, the application of personal values of honesty, kindness, integrity etc.).
One example that we worked through at the time was a case-study brought by a woman who was a railway engineering team-leader working in Preston. There had been a train derailment, in which people had been killed and injured. One of her colleagues, the team-leader for another team (so a peer), had been suspended as being potentially responsible for the mistake which precipitated the derailment and was under investigation on a number of counts. How should she ‘handle’ this situation in a ‘Christian way’? And how should we support her in a ‘Christian way’?
