Peter Francis studied theology at the University of St Andrews and the Queen’s College Birmingham before ordination. His Anglican ministry has included periods in England, Scotland and Wales. He was a curate in the West Midlands before moving to London as a university chaplain. Later, he was Rector of Ayr prior to becoming Provost of St Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow. From 1997 to 2022, Peter was Warden of Gladstone’s Library.
For most of his ordained life, Peter has been involved with issues of inclusion / exclusion in church and society. He has also served on the Anglican Peace and Justice Network. Recently his main research interest has been on film and theology, specifically films of faith and doubt. These areas, together with his enthusiasm for Gladstone, his passion for liberal thought and liberal Christianity in particular, are what he lectures and leads courses on, writes and broadcasts about.
He is Hon. Research Fellow at the University of Chester and Visiting Professor at Glyndwr University.
This meeting will also be broadcast via zoom. Please email for details.
