In this talk, Luke will introduce gendered representations of Shekhinah in Jewish mysticism and explore potential precursors in earlier rabbinic and biblical traditions, Plato’s dialogues, and numerical theology associated with Pythagoras.

- Dr Luke Devine
Luke Devine is Senior Lecturer in Humanities at the University of Worcester, Course Leader for Sociology, and module leader for each of the university’s Politics modules. Luke’s teaching specialisms include sociology of religion, political philosophy, antisemitism, Freud and psychoanalytic sociology, and Jewish history and literature. Luke’s research is primarily focused on fin de siècle Anglo-Jewish literature, particularly Amy Levy, and on representations of Shekhinah in Jewish mystical literature. Luke recently edited a new version of Amy Levy’s Collected Writings (2023) for The Library of the Jewish People.
