The Keynote Speaker for this conference is Prof Tom McLeish FRS, Professor of Natural Philosophy in the Department of Physics, University of York.

Following Prof McLeish’s keynote address, there will be the opportunity for participants to choose one of three topics, which will be discussed over the two sessions: Climate change, facilitated by Martin Bassant and Jemima Parker, Cosmology, facilitated by Tom McLeish and Issues in Medical Ethics, facilitated by Prof Ian Cooke and Revd Dr Ian Lovett
The panel for the plenary will consist of Tom McLeish, Martin Bassant , Jemima Parker, Ian Lovett and Ian Cooke
Questions will be prepared by the groups and there will follow an opportunity for questions from the floor.
Martin Bassant is a PCN trustee and a former school Deputy Head, physics teacher, and A level physics Principal Examiner based in London
Jemima Parker is a trained geography teacher and Environment Officer for the Diocese of Leeds
Ian Lovett is a PCN member and a former biology and chemistry teacher who was ordained into the Anglican Church in the late 1970’s and has a Master’s and Doctoral degree in Organisational Theory.
Ian Cooke is Emeritus Professor in the academic unit of reproductive and developmental medicine at the University of Sheffield and was a President of the British
Fertility Society
The Quaker Meeting House is about 20 minutes walk from York railway station. There are fully accessible rooms and toilets. Those attending the conference may bring their own lunch and drinks will be provided throughout the day.
The cost of the day will be £12 for PCN members and £14 for non-members. There will be a limit of 100 places to allow for smaller group discussion.
