Programme

The provisional programme for the day is:

12 noon AGM, followed by discussion

1 pm Lunch

1.40 pm Joe Forde presents his talk titled 'Picking Up The Pieces: Church, State and Welfare In A Post-Pandemic Context – Shaping A Progressive Christian Vision For Welfare'

The event will finish no later than 3.30pm

Dr Forde's talk will highlight some of the pressing welfare challenges faced in the post-pandemic context in the UK.

He will discuss possible ways forward and the contribution that we, as Christians, can make to shaping that agenda and contributing to its delivery. Do we want to be a prophetic voice on welfare and, if we do, in what ways can we maximise our influence? How can we contribute on a practical level to the delivery of welfare (and emotional wellbeing) in our local communities and churches, in a way that will maximise our impact and avoid exceeding our capacity? What historical examples might we want to call on from the Progressive Christian tradition to guide our path on welfare delivery?

Dr Forde will present these topics as a basis for discussion.
