How do you define God?

At our October meeting, we’ll be asking another big question: “How do you define God?” The meeting proper starts at 7:30pm - but feel free to arrive a bit earlier, as some people will be there from around 7pm to order food and drinks (buy your own). We gather in one of the upstairs meeting rooms. Everyone is welcome.

What writings have been handed down to us that describe something of God's revelation in the world and in the lives of people of the past ? Where does revelation come in the context of science ?

‘Prophets of ‘The Way’

... the question of how progressive thought can have more exposure and practical impact. In an age which craves certainty, and with the far right (including many evangelical Christians) purporting to provide it, Progressives are convinced of the need for a re-examination of the foundations of the faith. So how can we be persuasive and effective 'Prophets of the Way'? Apart from the main topic we also briefly look at PCN's 'Eight Points' at each session. Today Howard introduces Point 2.

Is a second Reformation required?

Our opening meeting of the new session will focus on one of the topics voted for by members at the June planning meeting, and is especially appropriate in the year when Martin Luther's life and insights are being celebrated. Clyne Shepherd will introduce the theme, after which groups will be asked to define what theses they might want to pin on the church doors in Edinburgh! It promises to be an interesting evening, even if it may result in less dramatic action than at Wittenberg!

Reading group: “Unapologetic” by Francis Spufford

Described as brief, witty, personal and sharp-tongued, "Unapologetic" is a 21st-century gem. The book aims to provide a rationale for ongoing Christian faith that is based on its emotional power while incidentally busting wide open the usual "Science v. Religion" divisions. This will be the first of three study sessions on this wonderful book - please will you bring along your own copy.
